Watch NASA win the Shorty Award for #Government!

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration has strived to race us into space and put a man on the moon. Wanting to instill the same thrill of the advancement of space exploration, science, and aeronautics research, NASA organizes direct tweet-ups between their followers and NASA administrators, proving to be a direct link to science.

NASA has taken one small step in its attempt to reach out to a new generation and one giant step for starting a revolutionary interactive interface for future scientists of the world.

On The Campaign Trail: Government, Travel, and Cultural Institutions

#government

A number of government branches and agencies are contending for the best #government on Twitter.  Here are a few that are utilizing social media to connect with their constituencies:

@NYCEDC is the New York City Economic Development Corporation, which works with other agencies and businesses to develop the city and improve the quality of life for all its residents. You can learn more about what they do here.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (@EPAgov) uses Twitter to update its followers about sustainability. They even conduct live town halls and community calls to keep people involved and informed. Find more information at their website.

What about other countries, like our neighbors to the north? Canada Business (@canadabusiness) supports entrepreneurs by providing tips. This information helps their businesses grow and innovate. You can see their page here.

If you know about other government accounts that are doing a great job, be sure to nominate them for a Shorty Award!

#travel

The leader in votes for the best #travel in Twitter, by a huge margin, is @CharlesTrippy, who tweets about his adventures both at home and away from it. Check out his YouTube page.

Evelyn Hannon, otherwise known as @Journeywoman, is another person doing great things with Twitter. Her website has lots of useful tips about traveling for women.

Do you follow other people who create awesome content about travel? Spread the word by nominating them for a Shorty!

#culturalinstitution

The #culturalinstitution category in the Shorty Awards could really use your votes! Got a favorite organization or society that enriches the community? Tell us why and get them noticed! Here are a couple accounts that have an impressive presence:

The New Museum in New York City, @newmuseum, is completely focused on contemporary art, and it maintains a schedule of fascinating exhibits. Find more at their website.

Across the pond in London, the Royal Opera House plays host to operas, ballets, and even educational programs. Check out their Twitter, @RoyalOperaHouse, and their home page.

The Royal Theatre Carré from the Netherlands, @theatercarre, tweets in Dutch about their awesome productions. Find more at their site.
